Serve it up while still steaming next to a cup of coffee and you’re ready to tackle whatever the morning throws your way!

Peaches and Cream Oatmeal

This Peaches and Cream Oatmeal is so much better than the packaged Quaker Instant Oatmeal. It’s warm, filling, and is loaded with creamy, juicy peach flavor.

Fresh peaches mixed with brown sugar and a drop of vanilla all mixed into hearty rolled oats and a drizzle of heavy cream… You really can’t go wrong with oatmeal and fruit for breakfast.

It’s perfect for those mornings when you need a satisfying meal but don’t want to skimp on the quality while also saving you time. So sweet and easy, who says you can only eat it for breakfast?!

If peaches aren’t in season, swap them out with strawberries and make strawberries and cream oatmeal instead.

How To Make Peaches and Cream Oatmeal

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together the water, milk, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt. Bring to a boil, then add the oats. Reduce to a simmer. Stir occasionally. Add in half a cup of peaches to the oatmeal a couple of minutes before it finishes cooking.
  2. Continue cooking until the desired consistency is reached, then divide the oatmeal between two bowls.
  3. Top with the remaining fresh peaches and a drizzle of heavy cream.
  4. Serve hot and enjoy your morning!

Tip and Variations

  • While the vanilla is added in during cooking, it can be added at the end once your oatmeal has been removed from heat. I find it blends better if added alongside the other ingredients while cooking.
  • It’s important to use a pan with tall sides when cooking this oatmeal. The milk can easily boil over if not careful. Using a medium sized pan will help prevent that spillage. 
  • Feel free to top with additional fruit. Strawberries and banana slices pair wonderfully with the peaches. Even blueberries and peaches make for an interesting fruity combo! 
  • Walnuts, almond slices, and pecans are great add-ins as well. They give the oatmeal a nice crunch!
  • Sprinkle with cinnamon for some spice to blend in with the sweetness of the peaches and cream.
  • If you use steel cut oats instead of rolled oats, be sure to soak the steel cut oats overnight to cut down on the cook time.

Storage and Reheating

Refrigerator: While this oatmeal recipe only makes about 3 cups (2 servings), if you do have any leftovers or if you’ve made a larger batch you can easily store the peaches and cream oatmeal in an airtight container for 4 to 6 days in the fridge.

Freezer:  You can actually freeze cooked oatmeal for up to 2-3 months as well. Reheating will be the same for either frozen or refrigerated oatmeal.

Reheating: As for reheating, this recipe can be reheated on the stove or in a microwave safe dish. Add a tablespoon or two of milk to the oatmeal as it reheats if it appears dry.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • ¾ cup milk, any variety
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar, adjust to taste
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 cup peaches, fresh, diced into ¼ inch cubes (divided)
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream, divided

Instructions
 

  • In a medium saucepan, whisk together the water, milk, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt.

    It’s 8-28-22 in Northern Illinois, sunny 8:00am 66°F and I just made this using fresh peaches and sprouted GF oats. Made the recipe as written. I will say the flavor profile is pretty spot on with 1 exception. There’s too much salt. I would add 1/8tsp salt next time. It overpowered the sweetness of the peaches and brown sugar. Adding more sugar to the serving makes it better. Otherwise this is a 5 star recipe for sure! Will be making again with less salt.
