Easy Dinner Rolls with Honey Butter Glaze
I love a shortcut recipe that still tastes like homemade. These honey butter rolls start with frozen yeast dinner rolls, so there’s no measuring flour, no waiting for yeast to bloom, and no kneading required.
The longest part is waiting for the dough to thaw and rise. After they bake, I brush them with a mixture of melted butter and honey with a touch of cinnamon and vanilla.
The result? Perfect rolls with a soft, fluffy texture and a touch of sweetness. They make a simple side for any dinner and fit right in on the Thanksgiving table.
How to Make Honey Butter Rolls
Here’s a quick overview of how I make these easy rolls. The full recipe is further down the page.
Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Arrange the frozen dinner rolls in the pan, leaving space between each one.
Cover with greased plastic wrap, and let the rolls thaw and rise on the counter in a warm spot for about 3 to 4 hours, or until doubled in size and noticeably puffy.
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and soft inside.
In a small bowl, mix the melted butter, honey, cinnamon, and vanilla. Brush the honey butter over the warm rolls right after baking so it soaks in.
Serve warm with any remaining honey butter. If you like a sweet and salty contrast, sprinkle a little flaky salt or sea salt over the tops after brushing on the honey butter.
Quick Tips for the Best Texture
- Set the rolls in a draft-free area to rise. A spot around 75°F to 85°F, like near the oven or on top of the fridge, gives the best results.
- Make sure to buy frozen dinner rolls that are meant to bake up soft not hard. I use Rhodes frozen dinner rolls, but other frozen yeast rolls will work.
- If you’re baking for a crowd, use two pans so the rolls bake evenly. Don’t try to add more than 12 rolls to a 9×13-inch pan.
How to Store Leftovers
Store leftover rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or in the fridge for up to 5.
Honey butter rolls also freeze well! Wrap each roll in plastic wrap and place them in a freezer-safe bag. Reheat in the oven at 300°F for about 10 minutes or until warmed through.
