What is spiced simple syrup?
Spiced simple syrup is a sweet drink syrup that brings flavors like cinnamon, cloves, and star anise to your favorite drinks and desserts. We love to use it during the fall and winter months for cocktails and baked goods.
What does winter spice syrup taste like?
This syrup tastes like cinnamon with a hint of cloves. Star anise smells a lot of licorice but it doesn’t make the the syrup taste like licorice. It rounds out the spiced syrup quite nicely.
Does this work as a rich simple syrup?
Rich simple syrup is a variation of traditional simple syrup, made with a higher ratio of sugar to water—typically 2:1 (two parts sugar to one part water). This results in a thicker, more concentrated syrup with more sweetness. Feel free to make this recipe into a rich simple syrup if desired.
Tips
- Spice Adjustments: Add more cinnamon sticks or cloves to amp up the flavor depending on your preference. Sometimes I’ll even add 2-3 allspice berries for a slightly different flavor.
Serving Suggestions
Our spiced simple syrup adds a seasonal touch to drinks like my spiced cranberry sparkler and vanilla latte. Or, brush it over gingerbread cake or apple cider cake to lock in moisture.
Storage
- Refrigeration: Once your spiced syrup has cooled, store it in an airtight jar or container in the refrigerator. It will last 1-2 weeks.
