Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 to 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 4 to 5 whole cloves
  • 1 star anise optional

Instructions

  • Combine sugar, water, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and star anise in a small saucepan.

  • Bring to a simmer over low-medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves.
  • Remove from heat and let steep for 20-30 minutes.
