What does a pumpkin spice latte taste like?

This latte recipe has a light taste of pumpkin with warm spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves. Espresso adds a slightly bitter note, while the milk and cream give the drink a smooth texture. It’s a must-try coffee recipe for anyone who loves sweet pumpkin flavors.

What’s in a pumpkin spice latte?

We make our latte recipe a little differently than places like Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts. Here’s a short list of ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons pumpkin purée: This is where we get real pumpkin flavor! You can use store-bought or homemade. Don’t grab pumpkin pie filling; it’s not the same as purée.
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar: Adds sweetness to the latte. Feel free to use brown sugar, maple syrup, or your favorite sugar substitute if preferred.
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice.
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract.
  • 1 cup milk (any type you prefer) and ¼ cup heavy cream: makes up the creamy base to our pumpkin spice latte.
  • 1-2 shots of espresso or ½ cup strong brewed coffee: Choose your coffee strength to match your preference. Add more espresso if you like a stronger latte.

Can you make an iced pumpkin spice latte?

Yes, you can! Follow the recipe as written. After removing it from the heat, let the mixture cool slightly. Pour it over ice in a glass instead of a mug.

You can also use cold brew instead of hot espresso or coffee for a smoother iced drink.

Straw in a glass of pumpkin spiced latte.

Absolutely! This latte works great with almond milk, oat milk, or any plant-based option for a dairy-free version.

Feel free to add sugar to taste. You can also try maple syrup or brown sugar for a different type of sweetness that adds depth.

Espresso is wonderful is you love a rich, bold base. If you prefer a milder flavor or don’t have an espresso machine, strong brewed coffee works just as well.

We love using cold brew for the iced version of this pumpkin latte recipe. It has a smooth flavor, and most grocery stores carry it in the refrigerated section, making this recipe even easier!

Storage and Reheating Tips

If you make an extra batch, you can store it in the fridge for up to 24 hours. Reheat on the stove over low heat, stirring often. Just avoid bringing it to a boil to keep the milk from curdling.
